A marketing specialist working with translators and interpreters… say what?

When you think of translators and interpreters, you probably think of really serious people in suits reviewing documents or doing a very somber live interpretation of a conversation. Well, at least that was my narrow idea of language service providers before joining the industry, and I mainly attribute that to the lack of stock photos out there (I’m looking at you, Canva). Little did I know that translators and interpreters come from all cultures, languages and countries, yet they all have one thing in common: the passion to help people communicate in a language they can understand.

It’s been almost one year since I joined CCI Group, a women-owned translation and interpretation agency in Orlando, Florida, as a Business Development Representative, and I’ve loved meeting talented people along the way. All of these experienced linguists are professionally trained to deliver a message from one language to another, while making it culturally relevant and accurate, and to be honest, it’s fascinating seeing how it all works. It seems like simple work, but trust me, it isn’t.

In October I got to meet my co-workers in real life. I know it sounds funny, but let me elaborate on that. We met in the beautiful city of Houston, Texas for our first company retreat. Now, I gotta tell you, one of the perks of working for a multilingual company is that you get to do your work from any place in the world. In my case, I’m based in Mexico and I work from my home in Merida, Yucatan so the cultural diversity in languages that I get to see everyday is mostly local (Mayan and Spanish speakers, and probably some expats along the way).

So, meeting them for the first time was amazing. If you ever encounter yourself in this situation, I can assure you that the thing that will probably surprise you the most is the height of people. I’m not kidding. Who knew my coworkers were so tall, and that my boss was actually shorter than me (lol sorry Indy!)

During our stay we had so much fun and we did several activities there. One of them was a team building activity where we got to escape from probably one of the toughest Escape rooms I’ve ever been in. It was a great way to get to know everyone’s takes when it comes to problem solving, and that’s where I understood how every single individual contributes to making CCI Group a company that our clients are always speaking of as “efficient and reliable”.

There’s a reason why our talented group of interpreters and translators can enable effective communication for our clients in a wide variety of settings and it’s because we know how to work together and how to succeed in a global economy through knowledge and understanding of everyone’s culture and beliefs.

Everyone knows diversity drives innovation and efficiency, and at CCI Group, that’s what we do best.
